Daytime Vs Night-time Skincare

There are many things we do not bother to follow in our daily lives like maybe drinking at least 3 litres of water daily, doing exercise for at least fifteen minutes and also taking good care of our skin. We all know that the skin is the largest organ of our body and the one exposed to all external pollutants, sunlight and dust. Despite knowing this, we tend to neglect following a skincare routine. And we do understand that doing this would be the last thing that would come to your mind especially when you're getting late for work in the morning and tired at night when you are back. But just like brushing and combing  your hair is a part of your daily ritual, so should be your skincare. It is equally vital. Like all the other things that make you feel clean and fresh, so does a good skin care regime. And when your skin feels good, it will give you the confidence you need!. The health of the skin is as important as the health of our body. The way we follow healthy diets and consume nutritious foods, the skin requires the same. It needs equal care, attention and a lot of love :)

Daytime VS Nighttime Skincare

The first step in creating a successful new skincare regimen is selecting the correct products for your skin type. The second step is nearly as important: determining the best time and order to apply them. Using the proper product at the right time can help you maximise the effectiveness of each product in your daily regimen and improve the health of your skin.

Your daytime skincare regimen should concentrate on protecting your skin from UV damage and pore-clogging factors such as dirt and pollution, whilst your night-time skin routine should concentrate on keeping your skin moisturised, repairing acne-prone skin, and treating skin issues. In other words, daytime skincare is concerned with protecting the skin from potential environmental factors, but your night skincare routine is concerned with addressing skin issues before the regeneration process of sleep begins.

Morning Skincare Routine

There are many steps involved in morning skincare and usually, we apply the products based on weight. So the thinnest product goes in first so that it absorbs into the skin followed by the thickest. Now you must have read about a five-step skincare routine or maybe even nine. But as long as you stick to the basics and are consistent with it along with the right products, you wouldn't need to layer your skin with multiple skincare products.

Follow these 4 basic steps:

  • Cleanser: Cleansing the skin removes all the dirt and germs that might have entered the pores of your skin through the pillowcase or even just air. Use a mild and gentle cleanser. Take a small amount in hand, add some water, lather it a little and then massage it in circular motions on your face. Avoid the eye area as it might burn. Use a cleanser that is suited for your skin and addresses your skincare concerns e.g. a salicylic acid based cleanser for acne prone skin. Pat dry your skin with a clean and soft towel after cleansing.
  • Moisturiser: Be it dry skin or oily skin, your skin needs a moisturiser. It will help to nourish and hydrate your skin throughout the day. Hydrating the skin and providing it with the basic ingredients it needs to survive the day is vital. Moisturisers contain ingredients that protect the skin from damage that can be caused during the day due to exposure to sunlight, dust and other pollutants. So, apply a good amount of moisturiser on damp skin to keep it healthy and nourished throughout the day.
  • Facial Oil: Facial oils are important as it seals in moisture and makes your skin look dewy. It also keeps the skin hydrated and provides nourishment. Applying a facial oil will also help in the smooth application of the foundation. Isn't that an added bonus?
  • Slather Sunscreen: Sunscreen is a must! Always.. Yes, you read it right!  Sunscreen protects you from harmful radiations of the sun. If you are skipping this step then you might want to reconsider it. Apply a generous amount of sunscreen.
  • So, even if you follow these basic steps, you are good to go out and slay the day.

    Night-time skincare Routine

Now, when it comes to the night-time skincare routine it gets a little detailed as this time of the day, the skin focuses on repairing itself. So, this is the best time to use any active ingredient, concentrated product or spot treatments to get rid of the major skin concerns that you may be facing.

    Start as follows:

  • Remove Makeup: Never sleep with makeup on. This can clog your pores and lead to breakouts. Make sure to remove it before going to bed (ideally a doubled based cleanser) . But you just can't stop here, you will need aftercare too.
  • Cleanse: Yes, you have to cleanse your skin after removing the makeup (part of the double based cleansing system- first use a cleansing balm to dissolve any stubborn make-up, then follow by a cleanser according to your skin type).
  • Serum/Spot Treatments: If you have been using any serum or spot correctors, now is the time.
  • Moisturiser: Apply a thick moisturiser to deeply nourish your skin.
  • Facial Oil: This would be the last step. Apply a few drops of facial oil and take off to get your beauty sleep.

  • The steps might sound a bit too much if you have not been doing so, but trust me, your skin is going to thank you for keeping up with this routine.
